The NSW Rural Fire Service plans strategic backburning while the Australian Defence Force continues to provide aid including airlifting people out of risky areas.

Cooler conditions will remain until Friday, allowing the NSW RFS to plan containment strategiesAt least 20 properties were impacted by the blaze that tore through Balmoral in the NSW Southern Highlands

Work will be concentrated on the areas including the Gospers Mountain, Grose Valley and Kerry Ridge blazes in the Blue Mountains region and the Green Wattle Creek, Forest Road and Currowan fires around Shoalhaven. Crews over Sunday and Monday were conducting assessments of firegrounds and impacted areas to assess the damage to properties and land.
