NSW Health officials are concerned the 'overwhelming majority' of cases in the Newcastle area may be infected with the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

The state recorded 1,360 COVID-19 cases after 104,501 tests were conducted amid an Omicron outbreak in Newcastle.

NSW Health's Dr Jeremy McAnulty said the"overwhelming majority of cases" in Newcastle will be the highly transmissible Omicron variant. Anyone who attended Finnegan's Hotel on 21 Darby Street from Friday December 10 at 6pm to Saturday December 11 at 2:30am and The Argyle House nightclub from 9pm on Wednesday December 8 to 3am on Thursday December 9 are deemed close contacts, must get tested and isolate for seven days.
