Northern Territory acting Chief Minister Nicole Manison says authorities will still use lockdowns to stem the spread of COVID-19 outbreaks despite telling Territorians it was time they learned to live with the virus.coming from COVID-19 hotspots, reopening to the whole of the country just as cases are climbing.
The NT has been battling its outbreaks too, with three new cases taking the Katherine cluster to 112 on Monday. Two communities – Tennant Creek and Ali Curung – are in lockdown and subject to strict mandatory testing requirements.Ms Manison said lockdowns were still enforced because of “unacceptably low” vaccination rates in some regions.
While 83 per cent of Territorians aged 16 and over are fully vaccinated, and 89 per cent have had at least one dose, there is significant variability among regions and age groups.According to the most recent geographic data available, up to Sunday, while more than 95 per cent of people living in Darwin City are fully vaccinated, just 48 per cent in the Daly, Tiwi and West Arnhem communities have had two doses.
A man and a woman in their 30s also tested positive. They visited Tennant Creek a week ago and are asymptomatic.Territorians in their late 20s and early 30s have the lowest vaccination rate of all age groups, at 78 per cent.“Christmas is a family time, and you deserve it,” she said.and numbers spiking ... people must comply with our strict testing requirements.
