Police in the NT are warning a small minority of visitors and returning Territorians are endangering lives after seven people broke quarantine rules over the weekend, including to go to a cafe and visit a pub.

A 40-year-old man has been fined for breaking coronavirus quarantine after health authorities spotted him having coffee at a popular cafe in Katherine, in one of multiple breaches by NT locals in just two days.The fines included one 40-year-old man who was found by a compliance team at a cafeThe man had arrived in the NT on July 1 and told a compliance team he was doing errands and "wanted a coffee".

Matt Hollamby, Incident Controller for the COVID-19 Emergency Operation Centre, said the "selfish" actions of a few could endanger lives. "We have seen the sad realities of community transmission in other jurisdictions and don't want that to happen here".
