Fireworks displays will still be held in Victoria and South Australia after the celebrations risked cancellation due to the bushfire crisis.
More than 400,000 revellers are expected to gather in Melbourne's city centre on Tuesday night, with a cool change allowing the event to go ahead.
There have been more than 30 fires burning across Victoria, 20 of which are in the East Gippsland region. Adelaide's main fireworks in Elder Park will also go ahead as scheduled after City Council announced it would not scrap the fireworks, instead encouraging people to donate to the bushfire appeal.
