Since hitting the headlines in November, the Omicron COVID-19 variant has damaged economies, destroyed holidays and blighted the festive season, but scientists say there may be a silver lining to the fast-moving version of the virus.

Results showed participants developed an antibody response to Omicron that increased 14-fold over the two weeks, and their ability to neutralise the Delta variant increased more than fourfold The study — led by scientists at the Africa Health Research Institute in Durban — is yet to be peer-reviewed, but epidemiologist Catherine Bennett from Deakin University said the potential was promising.
