The Queensland government has announced a $750 million cancer centre for Brisbane, in what authorities consider an Australian first.

The centre, which would create 150 beds, would be at the RBWH and would be managed under the Metro North Hospital and Health Service.Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the cancer centre, to be at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, would be a “one-stop shop for the most sophisticated treatment that people need all under one roof”.Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the centre, which would create 150 beds and 2000 jobs, would be managed under the Metro North Hospital and Health Service.

“This is what healthcare is all about and providing the best quality healthcare to Queenslanders,” she said. “Sadly, on average, one person every four minutes is diagnosed with cancer in Australia. In Queensland, we expect the number of people diagnosed will increase by 46 per cent by 2036.”
