After sweltering through the hottest-ever Christmas Day yesterday, Perth could be in for its hottest December day on record today, and there won't be a cool change until Wednesday.

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Jessica Lingard said the maximum temperature reached 42.8C at 3:36pm yesterday, beating a 53-year-old record of 42C set in 1968. "Today there is a chance we can beat the record for the hottest day in December, which was 44.2C on Boxing Day 2007," she said.Chance for more records to fall
With a forecast overnight minimum of 27C, there is also a chance the record could be broken for the warmest December night on record, which was 27.3C on December 29, 2012.Lancelin will be the hottest place in WA today with the mercury set to hit 46C.
