Phone taps allegedly uncovered a plot to fly the ISIS flag atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge and attack international tourists, a court has heard.

Hamdi Alqudsi, 48, faced the NSW Supreme Court for the second day of his trial on Tuesday to fight the charge of intentionally directing a terrorist organisation preparing to carry out a terrorist act.Hamdi Alqudsi is charged with directing the activities of a terrorist organisation.

“They started becoming involved in discussing, fostering and planning domestic terrorism acts,” Ms McDonald said. The court heard phone taps recorded the Shura’s contact in Syria, Mohammad Ali Baryalei, suggesting the group install the Islamic State flag on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge to pledge their allegiance in a video to be posted online.

Days before their pledge was allegedly accepted, Ms McDonald said the group met to discuss attacking three Sydney landmarks, including the Woolloomooloo naval base where they considered killing members of the navy.
