Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek has come under fire for equating her blocking the $1 billion Blayney gold mine project with a $4 million go-kart track.
Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek has defended her halting of the $1 billion Blayney Gold Mine by comparing it to Deputy Opposition Leader Sussan Ley ’s decision to block a $4.2 million go-kart track.
In her declaration to protect the site, Ms Plibersek said: “These traditions have been disclosed to me privately and must remain confidential due to their cultural sensitivity.” “Wiradyuri Traditional Owners Central West Aboriginal Corporation is exactly the same group that the previous environment minister Sussan Ley listened to,” Ms Plibersek said.
Ms Ley hit back at Ms Plibersek's comparison, telling SkyNews.com.au: “There is a very simple test here: a local go-kart track is not a $1 billion gold mine.”“In claiming that knocking back a Go-Kart track is ‘a very similar decision’ to her killing a $1 billion Gold Mine and almost 1,000 jobs, Tanya Plibersek is proving to be one of the most duplicitous Environment Ministers Australia has ever had.
