The search for a man, believed to have been swept away in waters during Queensland’s far north flood emergency, has been suspended. A desperate search and rescue operation had initially been launched after witnesses saw a man being swept away in floodwaters near Coopers St in Ingham on Tuesday. The man entered floodwaters about 5.15pm and remains unaccounted, according to police. However, a man matching his description was seen exiting floodwaters nearby and was able to continue down the road.

Flood situation continues Northern Queenslanders have not yet been able to start the clean-up, as cut-off Ingham still grapples with deep floodwaters. The town’s streets and homes were submerged, and the local substation was also flooded, meaning power has been cut for days. Residents lost their water supply on Wednesday before agencies rushed to fix the facilities, with the focus now on restoring power.
