NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said the majority of fines were issued to people who had already received a warning from police, but there were several fines issued to people buying illicit drugs.
Other hard-hit areas include Shoalhaven, where a total of 20 fines have been issued, Fairfield, with 16 fines and Lake Macquarie, with 12 fines.
Fines for holidaymakers include a Darlinghurst woman issued a notice at Copacabana Beach, a couple from Wollongong fined by police in Kiah, a Tamworth man fined in Armidale, a Clunes woman fined in Byron Bay, a Lennox Head couple fined in Sandon and a Petersham family who were given a warning in Sandon.Another fine was issued to a man who was stopped by police north-west of Albury and admitted to travelling across the border from his home in Victoria to visit friends in NSW.
“I am not sure where people are speeding to if they have been advised to stay inside unless travel is essential,” NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said.
