Police have identified two trucks related to a tragic freak accident that left a young mother dead after earlier issuing a plea for public assistance. 9News
Sarah Tonkin, 37, was returning from a funeral on Friday afternoon with her eight-month old baby, when a towing component lying on Geelong-Bacchus Marsh Road in Balliang East was run over by a white B-Double truck, which caused it to flick up and smash through the windscreen of her Hyundai SUV.Sarah Tonkin, her baby Austin and husband Gregor Jeffery.
The mother from Jan Juc died shortly after 2pm, while her son, Austin, was take to hospital with minor injuries. Detectives suspect the towing hook fell off a tray truck captured which was filmed on CCTV, which was travelling north along the Geelong-Bacchus Marsh Road about 2.15 pm Richard Tonkin, Sarah's father, told reporters today that no-one was to blame in what he described as a "freak accident. .
"Of course [the baby] doesn't know what happened. Mum's gone and they say in a month he'll forget about her … that's the sad part really," Mr Tonkin said.
