Victorian police launch an investigation into the abduction and sexual assault of a child more than 50 years ago.
She believes the assault happened near a Clayton South rubbish tip or landfill."Historical sexual offending matters are incredibly complex, but we are determined to solve this case and someone out there in the public may well have that vital piece of information to bring closure to this matter," Constable Mayne said.
The man was driving a new, black, straight-edged station wagon, which investigators believe was similar to a Ford Futura or Chevrolet Impala. He was described as a Caucasian man in his early 30s, with well-kept mousy brown hair and wearing dark glasses. The assailant was well-spoken, police said. Detectives have released digitally created images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries, as he would have presented in 1970.Since the first victim came forward, police learned of an attempted abduction in the same area, around the same year.
The woman told detectives a man attempted to convince her to get into his car when she was a child, in either 1970 or 1971.The man appeared to be Caucasian, in his early-to-mid 30s with well-kept short hair and wearing dark glasses. He tried to get her to get into the black car on Arunta Crescent in Clarinda before her mother noticed and told her to get away.Anyone who recognises the man or has information that could assist police in relation to their investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000"Any piece of information could be the key we need; if you recognise the man in this image or know anything that could help our investigation, please contact Crime Stoppers," Constable Mayne said.
