The Queensland Premier condemns the actions of a Townsville MP who has been banned from the city's nightclub precinct for a second time this year.
The Queensland Premier says she is "deeply disappointed" with Townsville MP Les Walker as he faces charges over an alleged assault.It's the second time the MP has been banned from the Townsville nightclub precinct this yearMr Walker has been issued with a Notice to Appear for common assault and disorderly conduct.
The charges come after an alleged altercation between Mr Walker and a 39-year-old man at a Townsville restaurant on Palmer Street on Friday evening.It is the second time Mr Walker has been banned from the Safe Night Precinct in Townsville this year.In a statement Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she was "deeply disappointed" by the events."I am angry that I have had to repeat this to Les.
"Regardless of what has occurred and who is at fault, Les has failed in his promise to me not to be placed in circumstances where those standards can be questioned. "As a result, he has agreed to stand down from his role on the Transport and Resources Committee and from his role as a Temporary Speaker."He is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on August 16.
