The public service workforce has increased to over 185,000, marking an 8.9% rise from the previous year. Since the election of the Albanese government in May 2022, the bureaucracy has grown by approximately 26,000 positions or 16.4%. The Labor party warns that the Coalition's proposed cuts could cost billions and result in longer wait times and reduced service quality.
