Queensland’s Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Taylor has resigned from the force effective immediately over the callous language used during a speech at a leadership conference in April.
Criminal Justice and Criminology Expert Dr Terry Goldsworthy says, “transparency and accountability are crucial” for responses.
“The first part is … ensuring the appropriate culture – overwhelmingly the police respond well to domestic family violence,” Dr Goldsworthy told Sky News Australia. “It’s ensuring that people understand very clearly what an appropriate culture is in these modern times and what was appropriate or seen to be appropriate 20-30 years ago will no longer be tolerated.
