A coronavirus scare at one of Queensland's busiest hospitals has forced more than 200 hospital workers into self-isolation while a staff member waits for her test results. A 32-year-old woman who worked in the COVID-19 ward at Ipswich Hospital presented herself for testing after she developed symptoms, prompting 220 staff members to enter isolation until her results were released.
As a result, the state’s hospital system was placed under significant pressure with some appointments cancelled due to staffing issues. The chief health officer praised the worker for following coronavirus protocols by alerting the hospital and self-isolating. Following the youth detention centre outbreak, 50 paramedics were trained in COVID-19 response measures so they could establish more pop-up testing clinics across the state if another outbreak were to occur.
