The Herald's View: High vaccination rates have ended lockdowns on Australia’s east coast, but shortcomings within our testing and isolation systems have been exposed by the current outbreak
It’s fair to say that the roars thundering around the MCG during the Boxing Day Test underscored just how far this nation has come in terms of the pandemic.
Attendance at major events like these would have been unthinkable just a few months ago, when millions of people in NSW and Victoria were in lockdown. It has been made possible, though because about 92 per cent of people in the two states have been fully vaccinated. Yet, while millions of people can move around freely, visit major events, attend family functions and party gatherings, manyof others are in home or hotel isolation after contracting COVID-19 or being exposed to a case.
