‘Rapidly changing space’: No change to booster times as uptake soars | lucy_carroll marywardy
Australia’s immunisation advisers have not ruled out bringing boosters forward to four months after a second shot as the pace of the program ramps up and doctors warn supply is running short.
The number of boosters given each day across Australia has more than tripled from about 25,000 last week to almost 100,000 on Tuesday as health authorities urge uptake amid a rise in Omicron cases. Federal Chief Medical Officer Professor Paul Kelly said the number of booster doses administrated across Australia had jumped from 25,000 a day last week to 75,000 on Monday and 96,000 on Tuesday.
This week, Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant and Health Minister Brad Hazzard have pushed for eligible people to get their booster before Christmas. “People who are due to have their booster around Christmas are asking if they can come a few days earlier … and we want to be able to provide that flexibility, especially for people who have had accelerated AstraZeneca doses,” Dr Hespe said.
Cabramatta pharmacist Quinn On used the last of his Pfizer vials on 40 booster recipients on Wednesday morning.
