The federal government may push back the release of its 2035 emissions reduction target from early next year.
Australia must submit its Nationally Determined Contribution for its 2035 emission reduction targets under the Paris Agreement by next year.Energy Minister Chris Bowen had previously committed to releasing it by February next year, in line with Paris Agreement timelines.World leaders and climate ministers are bound for Azerbaijan in November for the COP29 climate summit, where some countries are expected to reveal their 2035 targets.
"Countries around the world are indicating different timelines to me about when they might put theirs out," he said."I expect some countries will put their targets out later next year, we'll see what countries do." "But investors understand that the core component is not when it's announced, but whether it's ambitious.
The former president has pledged to again withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement should he win office.
