Children were waiting up to eight hours as a long queue stretched out of the Royal Children’s Hospital on Monday night.

A long queue of sick children overflowed from the Royal Children’s Hospital on Monday night as its emergency department experienced a surge that left patients waiting more than eight hours for treatment.

“We’ve been through a hard time, particularly Melbourne, and life has been very challenging. We’re all embracing trying to return to normal life, but our healthcare system is anything but normal at the moment,” he said. “Babies and toddlers are the ones that we are seeing more commonly, presumably because they just haven’t had the chance to develop immunity to some of these illnesses after the last few years,” Hibble said.
