When former Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk controversially said at the height of COVID-19 that “people living in NSW they have NSW hospitals. In Queensland, we have Queensland hospitals for our people”.

But in a recent conversation I had with Ms Palaszczuk’s replacement, Steven Miles - who was Health Minister at the time - I asked him about that comment and whether it was regrettable. Ben Carse was a husband and father who died from cardiac arrest after being ramped for several hours at Brisbane’s Princess Alexandria Hospital.
In the ten years in which Labor has been in power, the percentage of patients who’ve been ramped for more than 30 minutes has climbed dramatically in almost every major city, according to numbers provided by the Opposition citing Queensland Health. The LNP, led by Mr Crisafulli, has since clarified that he wants ramping figures to be under 30 per cent.
