Seven and Foxtel will extend their broadcast rights deal with Cricket Australia until 2031 - with Seven paying less than its current arrangement.
Cricket Australia will rake in far less for free-to-air broadcasting of test matches and the Big Bash League as part of a new deal with Foxtel and Seven that leaves the struggling Network Ten without top-tier sport to lure in viewers.
A Cricket Australia spokesman declined to provide details on the deal, saying on Monday afternoon, “all will become clear tomorrow”.Cricket Australia knocked back Paramount, the owner of Ten, on Monday morning, informing chief operating officer Jarrod Villani and chief content officer Beverley McGarvey.to take exclusive broadcast and streaming rights for the cricket for Ten and its streaming platform Paramount+.
But it will feel like déjà vu for Paramount. In September, it put forward the highest monetary offer for the AFLParamount airs the A-League, Melbourne Cup, MotoGP and Formula 1, but enters the next half-decade with no top-tier sports and none up for grabs, except for the NRL in 2027., until 2029, while the AFL and cricket are now on Seven and Foxtel until 2031.In the end, it was a discussion about who Foxtel’s free-to-air partner would be.
