A home owned by the same family for almost four decades is destroyed by a bushfire that tore through a semi-rural area on the fringes of Perth, with firefighters managing to contain and control the blaze which has been downgraded.
Authorities are investigating if the fire was deliberately lit, identifying multiple ignition points.
DFES incident controller Sven Anderson said while the fire was contained and controlled, properties in Warrigal Estate, Forge Drive and Anvil Way were still under threat from embers."The wind coming from the east, north-east … up until about 5:00pm [Monday], it's likely to increase and the gust to get stronger."He said weather conditions were expected to improve from late Monday onwards.
Mr Anderson said DFES would also reduce the number of fire crews at the scene overnight and on Tuesday as conditions eased.Locals praise firefighters' effortsIt was downgraded to a watch and act alert about 2:00pm on Monday. Crews battled the blaze throughout the night, working to protect properties in Warrigal Estate and elsewhere.Resident James Lucas said firefighters saved his home on Warrigal Way overnight.
Mr Lucas, who was evacuated from his property with his family, said there was some damage to a plant nursery and other structures, but the main house remained intact.Some fire crews are expected to be withdrawn from the area tonight.
