Residents in Perth’s outskirts have been told it may soon be too late to leave as a major out-of-control blaze burns nearby.
The previously out-of-control blaze is burning near the intersection of Old Northam Rd and Government Rd in Beechina, east of the city.Fire authorities also warned that homes in Warrigal Estate may be under threat by embers and locals should leave quickly if it’s safe to do so.An evacuation centre is open at Mundaring Arena on Mundaring Weir Rd in Mundaring.
A fire in Margaret River has also been downgraded to a watch and act, with authorities confirming the blaze is contained without any loss of property. “The primary objective is to contain it within its current size and within containment lines,” Mr Durell said. Elsewhere, a bushfire watch and act is in place for adjoining Wooroloo, with locals who plan to leave advised to do so.
