Breaking: NSW recorded two more deaths overnight, including a passenger who was on the Ruby Princess, bringing the state's toll to 21
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says social distancing measures will remain a fact of life amid the coronavirus pandemic until a vaccine is found as the number of infection cases continues to stabilise, but stressed that authorities are still concerned about community transmissions.
"That is the new normal," Ms Berejiklian said on Tuesday. "Not having physical contact, socially distancing is, at the very minimum, a way of life for us. Because we have to be honest with ourselves - until a vaccine is found, there is no simple way to deal with this issue."NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant confirmed there had been 49 new COVID-19 cases since the last update on Monday. The state's total now stands at 2686 cases.
An 87-year-old woman, who was a passenger on the Ruby Princess, also died. The total deaths among passengers from NSW on the Ruby Princess now stands at five. Dr Chant also confirmed the death of a 90-year-old man from the Dorothy Henderson Lodge in Macquarie Park, which was reported by the aged care facility on Monday night. He was the sixth resident from the facility to have died in connection with coronavirus."For us, [it] is a huge danger point in New South Wales, and it's what is causing us the most level of concern," Ms Berejiklian said.
