An NFL commentary icon has unwittingly got himself into hot water after going rogue in front of a live, national TV audience.
While the special occasion will eventually be remembered as the night legendary quarterback Drew Brees broke the league’s all-time record for total touchdown passes thrown — the feat was completely blown out of the water by an unfortunate stuff-up in the commentary box.
Popular NFL personality Booger McFarland had a moment he would rather forget in the first half, when he unwittingly appeared to draw a scribbled male reproductive organ on the live coverage. What was supposed to be a moment of poignant analysis of how the Colts should have been trying to defend against the high-flying Saints’ offense turned into a viral moment of accidental slapstick comedy.
Innocently enough, the former Colts’ defensive lineman began by drawing two circles around Colts players lining up in deep coverage, but it all fell apart when he tried to draw a path between them which he said reflected the area where Brees and the Saints offense had punished them so far in the game.“We’re going to have a split safety look,” McFarland started. “Which means you’ve got the entire middle of the field open.
“They do a really nice job of allowing the tight end to sit here — he attracts the backer. And now you’ve got all the field open, and that’s an easy touchdown.”
