With the end of the Skywalker saga looming for Australian audiences, the world premiere of the latest instalment hints at how its cast, crew and fans are feeling.
Oscar Isaac, who plays resistance fighter Poe Dameron, said the night felt like a celebration, but that he would miss his time working on the films.
"I know in the days to come I'll mourn that we won't be able to be getting together and making these wild movies again," Isaac said. Guests at the premiere included Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill, and actors made famous by the newest trilogy including Ridley, Isaac, John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran.Fans turned the premiere into a living tribute to various eras of the space epic franchise, with some dressing up like Hamill's Luke and Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia from the 1977 original film.
Others opted for the look of the characters' mother, Queen Amidala, and many donned the armour of Stormtroopers, bounty hunters and Darth Vader. In 2012, Disney paid more than $4 billion to acquire the Star Wars franchise, with the company also running Star Wars television series The Mandalorian on its streaming service, Disney+.
