The bureau predicts damaging winds averaging 40-60km/h will hit on Wednesday morning, with gusts of 90km/h possible in coastal and elevated areas, including metropolitan Melbourne. Rain is also forecast to hit the southern Victorian coastline on Wednesday before a high-pressure system brings drier weather from the west. The relief, however, could be short-lived, with another cold front forecast to reach Victoria on Friday.The severe weather warnings come after wind gusts of up to 124km/h were recorded at Hogan Island and 98km/h at Wilsons Promontory on Tuesday evening. The strong winds continued overnight, with Cape Otway reporting gusts of 107km/h at 3.22am on Wednesday.
The top daily temperature will continue to hover near 12 degrees most of the week, rising to a slightly warmer 14 degrees on Saturday before dropping back to 11 degrees next Monday.
