'I was told I should not be ringing 999 for things like this' 😡

Youngsters on e-cigarettes and age-restricted drinks. Old folk being 'terrorised'. Disturbances in the woods. 'Idiots' spoiling the youth clubs and 'extremely rude teenagers'.

Councillors said one group had recently been dealt with in a low-key way. But another was a more serious problem, they said. Police outlined their activities but also asked what the wider community is doing. A lot of things were shut during the covid pandemic and they should be reopened. A woman who wanted only to be known as Jenny said: "We have problems with kids. I've personally not experienced anything but I know property owners who have.

She said there has been various break-ins on town centre properties too, adding: "By the time [authorities] get here to an anti-social incident or a break-in, the trouble-makers are long-gone. We are seen as easy-pickings. " “I told the operator I was at Barnoldswick Civic Hall. The person on the other end of the line then said did I have a postcode? Strangely enough, I didn’t have the postcode. This conversation went on for a while and the call-taker said they were sorry but they didn’t know Barnoldswick. I thought surely they must be able to find Barnoldswick Civic Hall, on Station Road, in Barnoldswick?”

"Many boys are well-behaved but some are not. I met some who were extremely rude and tried to spray-paint my garage. Youngsters also go to the woods. We can hear them arguing and falling-out. "Also there are so many other things that youngsters like to do - social media and mobile phones. I don't know what the best solution is but there's nothing in town for these ages."

Another youngster added: "There was a football area with a sponge ball and nets. But one or two lads kept rugby-tackling people and there was a bit of kicking. And some people were vaping. Asked what they'd change in Barnoldswick if they ran things, they said they would upgrade parks with new play equipment and pitches for all ages including teenagers.Another said: "On Saturdays and Sundays, Barnoldswick town centre is full of adults drinking. There are some good events like the fair, Band on the Square and Alice in Wonderland. Last year, there was a silent disco.
