Young Sydney Swans player Caiden Cleary has been suspended for two AFL matches after attempting to buy illicit substances and failing to inform the club. Cleary was also fined $5,000 (suspended) for breaching the AFL's illicit drugs policy.

Young Sydney Swans player Caiden Cleary has been suspended for two AFL matches after he was given a criminal infringement notice by NSW Police after they caught him trying to buy illicit substances. The 19-year-old midfielder was slapped with a suspended fine of $5,000 by the AFL , the Swans said in a statement released on Friday. “ Sydney Swans player Caiden Cleary has been suspended for two AFL matches for conduct unbecoming,” the statement reads.

“The club is extremely disappointed and does not condone nor tolerate illicit drug behaviour. “The Sydney Swans will continue to educate our players on the pitfalls of such behaviour.” The Swans academy product played five games at AFL level in 2024, including three as sub, after being taken with pick No.24 in the previous year’s draft.
