Tens of thousands of passengers have been left stranded at Sydney's railway stations on Monday, with commuters warned to prepare for a week of chaos on the NSW rail network amid ongoing industrial action.

It comes after tens of thousands of passengers were left stranded at the city's railway stations on Monday, with staff refusing to operate trains that did not meet the minimum maintenance standards -including those with swearwords graffitied on them.All services were cancelled on the T7 Olympic Park line, with minimal trains also running in the Blue Mountains.

The mayhem will continue again on Thursday, with trains on all suburban lines set to run to an amended timetable, with a major reduction to services during peak periods.
