Masks will be mandatory indoors across the state of Tasmania from Tuesday, after several new Covid-19 cases were recorded.

The move comes as the nation grapples with a surge in new infections, with many confirmed as the highly-contagious Omicron variant.

Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein announced on Sunday that masks would be mandatory in all indoor settings – including offices, restaurants, gyms, supermarkets and retail centres – from midnight Monday.“We’ve done this before - a lot of Tasmanians are already doing it at the moment,” Mr Gutwein said.
