A.Emery founder Anna McLaren couldn’t find the perfect footwear, so she made it. Now she’s doing the same with ready-to-wear

Anna McLaren’s sandals have been all over the world. Her simple, structured flats – born out of her desire to create something beautiful and luxurious at an attractive price point – are stocked everywhere from Galeries Lafayette to Harvey Nichols. Now, she is hoping to replicate the quiet success of her A.Emery footwear brand with a new venture: ready-to-wear.

Sandals from A.Emery. The brand launched in 2017 with just six styles, and has come a long way since then. “It was fast-paced, very commercially minded, which is a challenge I enjoy. It’s all about the customer and what they want. There is so much data, which drives the design.” But, says McLaren, “Ready-to-wear is my passion. Footwear is a niche part of the market that was worth exploring, but ready-to-wear is my love.”Her first collection is a tri-tonal palette – black, white and stone – of minimalist tailoring. The standout piece is a pair of triacetate pants cut on a bias to flatter the body, available in black and white. “It’s my favourite fibre to work with,” she says of triacetate.
