The Russian invasion of Ukraine has “awakened” Taiwan to the reality of the situation they face with China, says former US Army Vice Chief of Staff General Jack Keane.

General Keane said United States government officials were concerned the “clock for China acting” in Taiwan is in “the next few years”.

He said the “likely” indefinite term Chinese President Xi Jinping will be given in power should cause concern to Taiwan – given Mr Xi’s “repeated” assertions that he will use force to bring Taiwan under the umbrella of mainland China if necessary.
