Tweed Shire Councillor James Owen says border chaos between NSW and Queensland is “going to get worse” as thousands of Australians look to enter the Sunshine State.
Queensland reopened its borders to all hotpot areas within Australia on Monday, reuniting families and allowing residents to go back home after a few months of hard border closure.
“People had the day off work, kids didn’t go to school, we just didn’t want to go anywhere near the border,” Mr Owen told Sky News host Chris Smith. He said a lot of people, to beat the rush of the traffic to get into Queensland, they left at 2am, with some bigger queues at 3-4am. “As we try and get back to normal life, as a border community, we’re going to get caught in some pretty significant traffic.”
