Western Australia has recorded two new local cases of COVID-19, taking the number of infections in the outbreak sparked by a French backpacker to 12.The other is a female backpacker who has been in contact with positive casesPremier Mark McGowan made the announcement as he received his booster shot at the Kwinana vaccination clinic in Perth's southern suburbs.

It is believed this case attended a rave party at the Perth Mess Hall, one of several venues visited by the backpacker while infectious. The other case is a young woman who is not believed to have attended the Mess Hall event, but is a backpacker who was in contact with some of the other positive cases.

A total of 1,260 casual contacts have now been identified, with 82 per cent testing negative and 204 people still to be tested.
