The committee, which includes Jacinta Price and Warren Mundine, are urging Australians to oppose the Indigenous Voice to Parliament when it comes to a referendum later this year.
“It is an insult to the fact that Aborigines are capable of being heard in the public arena,” the group said.Speaking to Sky News Australia on Monday Government Minister Tony Burke dismissed the concerns the Voice would negatively impact democracy.
“The referendum that people vote on is about two things. It’s about recognition and it’s about consultation. Meanwhile the Yes campaign will launch a week of action in February, with supporters engaging in various community activities such as barbecues and door knocking to further raise awareness and momentum ahead of the referendum.
Protesters at Invasion Day rallies were also encouraged to oppose the Voice, with Greens Senator Lidia Thorpe arguing Indigenous people “deserve better” than an advisory body.
