More than 13.5 million account holders have potentially had their personal information breached in a spate of cyberattacks since September.

The Australian Federal Police has identified the individual criminals responsible for stealing and releasing Medibank patient data and says they are part of a loose group of Russian hackers who have conducted numerous cyberattacks across several countries.– this time people with alcohol-related diagnoses – and threats of more to come, Commissioner Reece Kershaw said the AFP was working with Russian law enforcement authorities through Interpol.

“The dust hasn’t settled yet,” said Katherine Mansted, director of cyber intelligence with cybersecurity firm CyberCX. Ms O’Neil urged companies to not be tempted to believe paying a ransom would avoid a Medibank-style fallout. Mr Albanese told reporters in Sydney on Friday that he had spoken to Mr Kershaw and authorised the agency “to disclose where these attacks are coming from”.

As customer anger rose on social media over when Medibank would let them know what data had been lost, Mr Koczkar again said the insurer was “committed to fully and transparently communicating with customers, and we will be contacting customers whose data has been released on the dark web”.“You telling that is disgusting , that we published some data. But we warned you, we always keep our word,” they said.
