The Coalition has expanded its one-off energy support payments to include Newstart recipients after the federal budget announcement on Tuesday revealed a projected surplus of $45 billion over four years. The backflip has added $80 million to this year’s deficit. Speaking to Sky News, Mr Frydenberg says Newstart recipients are often on other benefits too, and that the number of people on welfare today is the lowest in 30 years.
