Experts are predicting 32mm of rain will fall on the region in less than an hour, affecting towns and villagers across the region includingForecasters have warned there is a "slight chance" of flooding, lightning strikes and power outages.
“The risk of thunderstorms steadily transfers northwards through Sunday afternoon and into the early evening. You can follow the latest in the blog below.According to the Met Office, the storm will hit Yorkshire, specifically Whitby and Scarborough in the early afternoon with around 32mm of rain per hour.Today's thunderstorm is predicted to be between 4am and 9pm, however as shown on the Met office images, Yorkshire is seen as dry with no clouds in sight for most of the morning.
