Twitter's former security chief tells Congress there was 'at least one agent' from China's intelligence service on Twitter's payroll, and Indian agents were knowingly hired.

abc.net.au/news/zatko-says-china-india-had-agents-working-for-twitter-/101436866Twitter's former security chief has told the US Congress there was "at least one agent" from China's intelligence service on Twitter's payroll.

"I am here today because Twitter leadership is misleading the public, lawmakers, regulators and even its own board of directors," he said as he began his sworn testimony. The spokesperson said Twitter's hiring process was independent of foreign influence and access to data was managed through background checks and monitoring and detection systems. One issue that didn't come up in the hearing was the question of whether Twitter is accurately counting its active users, an important metric for its advertisers.

He filed a whistleblower complaint in July with Congress, the Justice Department, the Federal Trade Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Twitter has called his description of events "a false narrative ... riddled with inconsistencies and inaccuracies" and lacking important context.
