The CFMEU has been issued with a warning amid the federal government confirming it was undertaking a review to ensure taxpayer money set aside for infrastructure projects was not falling into the hands of criminal groups.
Bombshell allegations against the CFMEU has sparked a review into federal government funded projects in a bid to provide assurances no taxpayer money was flowing to criminal groups.
Ms King warned the CFMEU it needed to come to grips with the expectation taxpayer money tied up in projects it is involved in is spent properly. "And the CMFEU needs to understand that it operates in a system where people expect that every single dollar of taxpayer money is spent properly." "We are a co-investment partner with states and territories. States, obviously, are doing the tendering and working directly as the contract agency.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan announced on Saturday an independent review would be undertaken into the state's construction sector following the CFMEU allegations. Consideration will also be given to"how government can establish clear processes and protections for whistleblowers and complainants with allegations of criminal or unlawful practices, coercion, bullying or intimidatory conduct".
