Ron Burggraf from Tullarook, Victoria, whose home was burnt down in November last year said his fire alarms saved his life.He and his wife had been asleep at around 1am on Melbourne Cup day, when they were alerted by the alarm. Dewberry said people should be checking their smoke alarms and smoke alarm batteries annually, and to replace them every ten years."One is the law, more than one is fantastic."We want people to check those alarms annually."
Excessive inhalation of carbon monoxide can lead to vomiting, tissue damage, brain damage or even death.
