A Sydney man accused of preparing to go to Syria to fight for Islamic State was secretly filmed telling an undercover operative he was training by walking with a backpack weighing 30 kilograms

Recordings of their meetings and details of their messages were put before a jury on Thursday during the operative's evidence in the NSW Supreme Court.

His barrister Michael Finnane QC has contended he was a deluded, lonely, mentally ill man encouraged to do things by the operative.Taleb, who cared for his mother who has multiple sclerosis, was arrested at Sydney international airport on June 15, 2017, with a bag containing military clothing, a sleeping bag, tactical gloves, a solar charger and other gear.The mother of Moudasser Taleb is pictured leaving the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
