A four-year-old girl has been bitten around the chest and abdominal area by a dingo on K’gari on Saturday morning. The little girl was fishing with a group of eight children of various ages about 11.15am near NgKala Rocks on the eastern side of the island, hen several dingoes began “loitering” nearby, Queensland’s Department of the Environment said. A male dingo then approached the girl and grabbed her around the chest, “causing lacerations, bruising and a puncture wound”.
The child was examined by a nearby doctor before the Queensland Ambulance Service flew her to Hervey Bay Hospital as a precaution. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers are now monitoring the dingo responsible. The Department of the Environment said fishers should not allow dingoes to loiter nearby and to move them on. It is the latest in a spate of dingo-related incidents on the island.
