James Bryson has been given jail time for causing the deaths of Deborah Thomson and Dennis Frazer just over a year after the fatal crash at Willalooka. Judge Barrett said Bryson had filmed himself driving at 150kph on the morning of the crash while holding a can of beer.
A blood test indicated Bryson was more than three times over the blood alcohol limit at the time of the crash.A man will spend most of his 20s behind bars over a high-speed crash that killed two people near a South Australian highway.
James Paul Bryson, of Padthaway, was sentenced in South Australia's District Court on Thursday — over a year after the fatal crash at Willalooka.Bryson had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving after he shot through a give-way sign at the intersection of Willalooka Road and the Riddoch Highway at about 9:40am on November 18, 2023.
Judge Barrett said a blood test taken from Bryson at 11:55am — over 2 hours after the crash — indicates he had an estimated blood alcohol concentration of 0.185 per cent at the time of the collision.Judge Barrett also said Bryson's speeding was "not in isolation" and he had filmed himself driving at high speeds the day before and on the morning of the collision."You were holding a can of Great Northern beer and you were driving at 150kph.
