MotoGP: Jack Miller sits down with Jess Yates to go through the frustrations of 2024, and the constant speculation around his future.

In its early May announcement of the regulation changes set for MotoGP in 2027 – where engines will reduce from 1000cc to 850cc for the first downsizing of power plants since 2007 – the Grand Prix Commission hinted at a need to reduce bike speeds in order to improve the safety of several of the current tracks used by the series.

“It’s just a very special place,” said Aprilia rider Miguel Oliveira, who could well have been speaking for his 23 peers this weekend. While Martin dismissed the story in the Italian outlet – “the media and press are always speculating, so we always have to discuss this information,” he said – Marquez used the same pre-event press conference to pour cold water on a theory that would have him inheriting Martin’s vacated seat at the Pramac Ducati team in order to ride a 2025-spec Desmosedici next year.

“Pramac is a very good team, as Martin showed. has a very good potential, but it’s not an option for me,” he said. The intertwined futures of Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez were - once again - the hot topic leading into round seven. One rider with no such contract instability is reigning world champion Bagnaia, who trails series leader Martin by 39 points coming into round seven.

Bagnaia hasn’t scored a single point in sprints since round three in Texas, and has been outscored 56-14 by Martin in MotoGP’s short-format races this season, explaining why he trails Martin in the overall standings despite outscoring him by three points in the six Grands Prix. “The level is there, the potential is there. We are always strong enough to fight for the win in the sprints, but I just need to have a bit more luck for finishing one.”

Miller said a seat swap with Acosta, should it eventuate, would be akin to a step sideways rather than backwards.
