After taking up the hobby during the coronavirus lockdowns, a Victorian doctor has taken her place among competitive puzzling's world elite with a strong showing at the World Championships in Spain.

Regional Victorian doctor Hannah Farthing recently returned from the World Puzzle Championships in Spain where she represented Australia.With an international holiday on hold, the Trafalgar GP took up the hobby of completing jigsaw puzzles as a way to fill in time.

Melissa Townsend, Rhianna Erksen, Hannah Farthing, and Katrina Coleman from the Australian team at the World Puzzle Championships in Valladolid, Spain.Australian Jigsaw Puzzle Association president D'Arne Healy wanted to enter professional puzzle races, but before 2019 found no national league to do so.

"We had no idea how good the timing was going to be, but puzzle competitions were the right thing at the right time.The community has since grown to an active social media following of 15,000 members from all over the country, as well as international members who do not have their own national league.

"Just completing a jigsaw puzzle, you do require certain skills and these can be learnt and discovered as you go," she said.
